The Line Hotel

Sandal-making is a great introduction to the complex world of shoe-making. In this class, participants will design and assemble a pair of custom open-toe, open-heeled sandals to take home. You may choose to work from provided tested patterns, copy a beloved sandal-shape of your own, or invent something new.
Materials include vegetable tanned or colored leather uppers, heavy leather insoles, cushioned rubber soles, brass shoe tacks, and various lacing and hardware. Come prepared for a day filled with cutting, scratching, gluing, stamping, hammering, pressing, and lots of creative decision-making.
All materials are included in the workshop and light snacks and refreshments will be served. Maximum of 6 students per class.
Rachel Corry started her shoe company, 'Rachel Sees Snail Shoes,' in 2010 after meeting a clogmaker in the UK. Since then, she has become fascinated with all things shoe-making. She currently lives in Portland, Oregon where she hand-makes custom sandals and shoes for individuals and small batch orders for shops. Rachel teaches sandal-making classes all along the west coast. She finds passing on the craft of homemade shoes truly gratifying, and most of all, fun!
