Walk down a graffiti-covered alley on a nondescript street in Highland Park and you might stumble upon the home of the legendary independent record label Stones Throw Records. Founded by DJ/Producer Chris Manak (Peanut Butter Wolf) in 1996, Stones Throw has grown into an international powerhouse in the underground music scene, representing artists such as Dâm-Funk, J Rocc, Madlib, and J Dilla. In anticipation of our film screening and dance party with Peanut Butter Wolf on May 29th, we paid a visit to the Stones Throw studio, where we captured the daily happenings of a world-renowned record label and left with close to a ton of vinyl.
This Saturday, May 24th, Stones Throw is dropping off Peanut Butter Wolf’s one-ton record collection at a storefront in East LA in celebration of the release of Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton. Stone Brewing Co. will provide beer and Verve Coffee will be keeping everyone amped. For more details and to RSVP check out the event page on Facebook.
