We follow up Day 1 of our perfect weekend in SF with epic toast at The Mill, a hike through the Marin Headlands, and a stop at gourmet grocer Bi-Rite.
10am: Four Barrel coffee and high-brow toast at The Mill
The Mill is a genius collaboration between Four Barrel Coffee and Josey Baker Bread. We didn’t know toast could taste so good, and since our visit we have been trying relentlessly (and to no avail) to recreate the seemingly simple butter/jam/bread slices of heaven. Also, the space is perfectly minimal and everything they choose to stock on their shelves carefully curated and crafted by local artisans. We walked away with a loaf of piping-hot, fresh baked sourdough, and (temporarily) forgot why we don’t live in SF.
The Tennessee Valley Trail in the Marin Headlands is a short drive from the city but feels worlds away. Take the upper trail through lush vegetation 1.7 miles to Tennessee Valley beach, where you can spend some time admiring the painterly rock formations. Take the lower trail on your way back and gather wild blackberries along the way.
4pm: Produce overload at Bi-Rite
No trip to SF is complete without a stop at Bi-Rite Market. Load up on the best of local produce, cheese, and prepared foods to keep you satiated for the ride home, and stop by the Bi-Rite Creamery across the street for a balsamic strawberry cone before you hit the road. See ya SF, it’s been rad.
