Poketo’s Guide to a Perfect Weekend in SF: Day 1

We spent a perfect weekend in San Francisco and have lived to share the itinerary. In proper SF fashion, Day One includes both a morning and early evening coffee break, a full afternoon of art, and plenty of time in-between for meandering.

DAY ONE

10am: Fresh-baked pastries and coffee at Arizmendi Mission

12pm: de Young Museum

The de Young, located inside Golden Gate Park, is a worthwhile visit even just for the building alone. Designed by Swiss architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron, the museum’s dramatic copper facade is perforated and textured to replicate the impression made by light filtering through a tree canopy, and the copper is meant to oxidize over time, leaving a rich patina that blends into the natural environment. Once inside, make sure to visit the top floor observation deck, which overlooks all of Golden Gate Park, and watch the fog roll in from the Pacific. Linger in the sculpture garden on your way out.

5pm- A Stroll in Hayes Valley – Ritual Coffee & Casey’s Pizza

You’ll need a pick-me-up after hours spent wandering the de Young, so hit up the Ritual Coffee outpost in Hayes Valley for a late-afternoon chai and grab a slice (or two) of Neapolitan-style sustenance at Casey’s Pizza truck.

Check back next Friday for our guide to a Perfect Weekend in SF: Day 2.
