I thought I would take the time and look back at 2008 and gather all the fun, collaborations, parties, and memorable moments for me in 2008. I know there was so much more little things in between… the late night taco trucks, karaoke sessions with Raina Lee, meeting Betsy Walton and APAK, pool parties with friends, sliding down San Francisco, talking shop with Jeremyville, getting away from it all, meeting Russel and Julie of Analogue, dinner with Lisa and Rena of Rare Device, hanging out with artist Pepa Prieto on the Poketo rooftop, and all the artist collaborations, too many to list, just got to see….. but, here are just some of the highlights that come to mind in 2008 and cheers to goodness in 2009!!
Our first party in the Poketo Studio… no better time than New Years Eve, 2007
We threw a great party with Corduroy Magazine at the The Mandrake in Culver City for the release of their second issue. They continue to produce a quality publication with a keen eye for art, photography, and highlighting the emerging star. If you don’t know, that’s singer Lenka flipping through the mag!
Poketo was invited as guest speakers at Parsons New School For Design! That’s Angie preparing for her big talk!
Here we are, a bunch of big goofs at the American Illustration Annual. We were honored to be part of The American Illustration Jury this year along with creatives from New York Times, Harpers, The Walrus, and Penguin Books.
In conjunction with their retrospective at the De Young Museum, Poketo + Gilbert and George wallets!!!
Poketo and long time collaborator, Peskimo, teams up with Coachella Music Festival for this rocking tee!! This year’s biggest draw, Santogold, The Raconteurs, Cut Copy, Vampire Weekend, Jack Johnson, and surprise show, Prince!!
Poketo’s first artshow at the new Los Angeles Studio/Headquarters!! The show titled, First Editions Show, brought together 26 artists for a buzzing night. Each of the artists created a limited edition print, either letterpress or giclee special for the event. This was the first art show at the new space. More to come in 2009 for sure!
Poketo launches the Glasgow Series at Hitherto Gallery!! Special performance by Stevie Jackson of Belle and Sebastian and after party with the 1990s!!!
Poketo + Rex Ray wallets for San Francisco MOMA!!
Poketo + Handmade Nation Silent Auction/Fundraiser. This was a grand event at the Poketo HQ. Faythe Levine and crew rocked Los Angeles with work by over 30 artists, all of the sales went to the Handmade Nation Documentary in 2009. It’s still currently in post and due to be out in early 2009. Handmade Nation, Poketo, and all the artists involved raised thousands of dollars to keep the project on path!! Look out for the book published by Princeton Architectural Press and the doc coming soon.
Poketo wallet love.
Throwing star action?? No, just Poketo Plates.
Poketo + 826LA!! 826LA is a non profit creative writing center for kids. We teamed up with the good folks there to produce limited edition wallets. Check this out, the kids wrote a story, we gave the stories to some of the raddest Los Angeles artists and the artists illustrated a the cover of Poketo wallets based on the kids’ stories!! It rocked and benefited 826LA programing!! Probably one of the most difficult series to coordinate, but, most fun and the results rocked us.
Poketo + 826LA Collaboration – When Wallets Eat Words from Poketo on Vimeo.
Poketo biggest series to date…. the Aussie series. Fifteen Aussie artist rock Poketo wallets. We traveled to Melbourne and Sydney to launch the series and artshow at Robio. Too much to say, check the photos here. That’s Beci Orpin and GreedyHen, two of the artists that were part of the series!
And of course, last but definitely not least…. we got hitched! And yes, we did have Taco Zone cater our wedding and Scrabbel did cover a beautiful Lou Reed song!
Big love to everyone, thanks for making 2008 rock!
