Event Recap: Artist Talk with Sean Knibb

Last Thursday, our friend Sean Knibb joined us for an intimate talk at the Poketo Flagship where he gave us a special glimpse into how he sees and thinks about the world.

We first got to know Sean and his work through the Line Hotel, where our Poketo Outpost lives permanently and where Knibb served as the conceptual designer for the interior and exterior spaces. For the past few weeks, we have happily hosted a show by Knibb Design called United Territory: two massive installations that combine plant life and his uniquely-designed chairs in a form inspired by the classic Mayan look. After seeing him transform our own space into a colorful urban jungle, we could hardly wait to hear Sean Knibb share exclusive insights of his design process and future projects.

Prior to the discussion, guests mingled amidst Sean’s impressive installations on the Poketo floor-space. We love seeing our flagship space filled with people on a night like this: a Bahn Mi sandwich in one hand and drinks in the other, talking and sharing ideas about design, culture, and art. The contagious energy spread everywhere, and the atmosphere was rife with the sound of dawning epiphanies and, of course, the bright sounds of laughter.

Once we settled in, Ted introduced Sean and he stood up to speak. Sean presented a series of projected slides providing us some exciting visuals: from detailed shots of prior creations to computer-generated renderings of upcoming projects.

But what better way to cap off a night of learning from a master than to kick back in one of Knibb’s own-designed Negril chairs and enjoy the good vibes of good community. It made us so happy to have people hanging out into the night: neighbors around the Arts District, designers who trekked all the way from Long Beach and beyond, and our dear customers-turned-friends who frequent our events.

A huge thank you to the Knibb Design team for partnering with Poketo and for sharing so much of the behind his design, thanks to Bundaberg Ginger for keeping everyone happy and hydrated, and thanks to everyone who came out that night. It was our pleasure hosting!
