A Designer’s Fairy Tale Wedding

A lot of girls dream of that perfect fairy tale wedding with a beautifully tiered wedding cake, a gorgeous dress to match, maybe a quintet, all tucked away in a charming chapel. It has crossed my mind. At’s archives there is an amazing wedding project conducted by some of the most creative minds in fashion, architecture and design.

The couple:

Proposed by the lead designer of Issey Miyake in 2007, Dai Fujiwara gathered a group of designers to contribute to a wedding entitled, “It’s A Beautiful Day.” The lucky Finnish couple, Ulla-Maaria Mutanen (left) and Jyri Engestrom (right) were decked out in some of the most remarkable wedding gear as well as their guests:

The site:
Alvar Aalto Academy

Usually the site of the annual Alavar Aalto Design Seminars, is now the site of a “Beautiful Day.”

The dress:

Designed by Dai Fujiwara

What about a foldaway, hexagonal, wedding dress!?

The ring:
By Ilkka Suppanen

Simple gold thread, tied and renewed each day.

The corsage:

Flowers die. Buttons don’t—and they’re cuter too.
