Weekend Escape: Big Sur

In our opinion, Big Sur is quite possibly the most beautiful place in the world, and lucky for us, within a comfortable driving distance from our home in LA, but far away enough to where we feel truly disconnected. Whenever things get a little hectic or overwhelming, Big Sur is there to remind us to slow down, reflect, and connect with nature—and how vastly powerful that connection can be! No matter where you live, you need to make a trip to Big Sur. Read on for suggestions on where to sleep, eat, and what to do once you’re there, although we totally support doing nothing at all.

Post Ranch Inn
If you’re in the mood for a splurge, Post Ranch Inn is absolutely idyllic and worth every penny, if not for the complimentary breakfast and glass dining room overlooking the ocean, than for the treehouses, definitely.

Deetjeen’s Big Sur Inn
If you prefer more casual and laid back vibes, go with Deetjeen’s. Discreetly tucked into the woods, it is quirky yet totally comfortable.

Big Sur Bakery
Maybe our favorite restaurant in Big Sur, Big Sur Bakery serves up seasonal and local fare from a wood fired oven and grill in a cozy dining room.

Go on a Hike
No matter which trail you choose, it’s pretty hard to go wrong. Just make sure to get down to the beach—the shoreline in Big Sur is stunning!

Esalen Institute
Taking in the epic beauty that is Big Sur can be a lot to handle, so we suggest winding down with a massage at the famous Esalen Institute. Not only will you have one of the best massages of your life, you will have access to the hot springs that Esalen is known for, otherwise forbidden to non-guests.

Ok, fine, we are actually on our way to Big Sur right now… follow us on instagram @poketo, we promise to post some pretty shots for you to live vicariously through.
