This time our NYC explorations take us into the heart of Bedstuy, Brooklyn to visit the studio of ceramicist Forrest Lewinger, the mind behind Workaday Handmade. Originally from Virginia, Forrest studied ceramics in college but gave it up to focus on video and site-specific installation-based work. After relocating to New York City and taking a job as an assistant to a ceramicist, Forrest found himself once again experimenting with ceramics, and soon friends were asking for custom pieces. Now, it’s his full time job, and though the work can be tedious and time consuming, Forrest thoroughly enjoys the challenge. Each Workaday Handmade piece is hand thrown and hand glazed, and many of the pieces play with the ideas of duration and repetition. Forrest meticulously speckles each of our Speckled Tumblers one by one, and although the result appears random, each dot is calculated and placed with intention.
A limited number of Workaday Handmade Speckled Tumblers are available at poketo.com.
