Poketo People: Ian and Flo

At Poketo, it’s the people around us that help keep it real. Inspired by their great vibe, this series puts the spotlight squarely on them, their aspirations and their brushes with the Poketo world. It’s also a great way to keep in touch, don’t you think? Yeah, we thought so too!

This week, we’re shining the light on San Diegoans (is that a word or did we just make it up?) Ian and Flo, regulars during Poketo’s Comic Con trips! We always see them there, so we thought this would be a great time to get to know both of them.

Who are Ian and Florence in a nutshell?
We are a creative couple who have too many interests and who can’t keep our artistic interests in-line long enough to make that one big project….YET! One day we’re cutting stencils, the next day we’re silk-screening. One day we’re in a band, the next day we’re making print material or doing photo-shoots. We’re all over the place and have fun with whatever we’re doing.

What do you both do?
Ian: I’ve been working in special ed for almost 10 years now. But I don’t let this job identify me. I’m a pretty modest guy, but I think I can finally call myself a photographer. Whether I’m good or not is debatable! I carry, at least two cameras with me almost everyday and have been doing so for about 2 years now.

Flo: I’m a hair & make-up artist based in San Diego who dabbles in illustration, design and photography.

How did you guys find Poketo?
F: Comic-Con! 2006! Next to PCP’s booth. Their table had the coolest T-shirt designs.

What things/projects are you guys most proud of?
I: Making DIY Manny Pacquiao shirts was pretty cool because I made them with Florence before the De La Hoya fight – before he got super-huge. Three years later, it’s great to see uncles still wearing the shirt around the house or random kids still coming-up to me to ask wear I got my shirt.

Photography-wise, I’m proud of all my photos; they’re like my kiddies!

F: My hair & make-up work!

What’s a perfect day like for you both?
I: With Florence, an early breakfast (Dim Sum, if possible), walking around with multiple cameras and filling-up on tea and coffee, rereading a favorite book, digging through records, and eating ramen are various components, in any combination.

What inspires you?
I: I believe you can find inspiration in anything, even in the most mundane.

Meeting new people is inspiring: there’s always something interesting in anyone. Florence is pretty inspiring when she puts pen to paper or when she does hair & make-up for our shoots.

Show us some of your favorite Comic-Con moments
I: If you can believe it, I don’t have any great photos to share from any Comic-Con. I need to work on that. Seeing the Mighty Boosh fellows perform from ’09 was one of my favorite moments.

What are your favorite Poketo finds and how do you use it?
I: We have 6 Poketo mugs, scattered between our homes and our work places.

Also, I use this grey camera pouch, from Poketo, for my most prized point-and-shoot camera.

It’s a cult-classic, Yashica T4, which was responsible for one of my more interesting photos, according to flickr, to date.

F: I have an organizer, various Poketo shirts, and multiple pouches for pens & pencils.

Cool! Thanks for making us part of your work and your play!
