Here at Poketo, we’ve been so inspired by those in our community who have jumped on the opportunity to take action and give back during the time of COVID-19 outbreaks. We wanted to give back the best way we know how—by providing art for your everyday. So we partnered with MEALS Clothing on an exclusive line of protective face masks in exciting colors and designs to let you express your true self even when you need to be covered up. Take a look:
Each machine-washable mask is made from 100% cotton scraps to reduce waste and increase sustainability. The masks feature unique dyed designs in exciting, food-inspired colors designed exclusively for the Poketo line.
“The idea behind MEALS is to confuse food and clothing. To lend the fleeting, fun, ephemeral qualities of food to fashion,” says Sam Salad, co-founder of MEALS. “The health crisis gave us the opportunity to make products people really need… we were so stoked when Poketo reached out.”
According to Poketo co-founder Ted Vadakan, "I've always been inspired by the playfulness and experimentation Sam and Rebma express through their brands MEALS and 69. The pivot to PPE is so needed right now. We all need to cover up and be safe, face masks are the new normal, the new proper social etiquette... so why not give it some personality?"
We’ll be donating 25% of all mask sales to CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort), a nonprofit organization working with the Los Angeles Mayor’s office and the Los Angeles Fire Department to provide free drive-through COVID-19 testing for high-risk individuals. So far, CORE has administered more than 20,000 tests in Los Angeles
Founded in 2010 by Sean Penn after the Haiti earthquake, CORE was initially established to distribute medicine and medical supplies. According to Executive Director Ann Lee, “CORE decided to focus its efforts in Los Angeles (after the COVID-19 outbreak) because our organization is based here. We couldn’t stand back and not support our own community… Each donation allows our organization to cover the cost of managing a testing site. Each dollar allows us to make sure that we have safety equipment and are also keeping our staff safe.”
We hope that even in this restricted time, you’re able to find ways to express yourself and that we can help out with our unique and vibrant masks!
