Guide to Outdoor Cocktails in LA

Given the fact that it is gorgeous out pretty much every single day here, we are left wondering why more drinking establishments don’t have outdoor space. Maybe people in LA prefer to imbibe in dark, cavernous rooms as a juxtaposition to the blaring sun, but we really enjoy having our mezcal magaritas al fresco. Here is a list of a few of our favorite places to drink outdoors, day or night, and spread out across Los Angeles for your convenience.

Upstairs at Ace Hotel
Located on the rooftop of the über hip Ace Hotel in Downtown LA, the indoor/outdoor lounge was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Ennis House. Whether perched by the pool or lounging in a cabana, you’ll be enjoying 360 degree views of Downtown while sipping on your El Toro Verde—a potent combo of absinthe, tequila, lime and cucumber. Go on a Sunday afternoon and catch tunes from Dublab DJ’s.

Bar Stella
Our favorite place to spend an afternoon curled up at the bar with a classic (Hemingway) and a classic (old fashioned). Seriously, go alone, order a Norteño, put your feet up on the patio furniture and watch as the setting sun casts the entire room a brilliant pinkish hue.

Lock & Key
Tucked away in a grimy part of Koreatown next to a 711 and a fried chicken shop lives this speakeasy. While the inside is dim and rambunctious, the backyard features ivy covered walls, a gorgeous wooden bar, flattering lighting, and a mellow vibe.

The Bungalow
A breezy, Baja-style cottage in Santa Monica, the proximity to the beach and the water views are really the draw here. Perfect at sunset.

The Pagoda
The Pagoda bar is situated just above the 600 year old Yamashiro Pagoda, the oldest structure in California, and offers views of the Griffith Observatory all the way to the Pacific. An ideal place to stargaze.
